5/22/2023 0 Comments Welcome the Wicked by Don Holliday![]() ![]() My guest this week is Kate Shellnutt, the news and online director for Christianity Today and an influential voice in the world of Christian journalism. One of the leaders in Christian journalism is Christianity Today, which you may know either from visiting their website for news or by listening to the popular podcast "The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill," which chronicles the Seattle-based church that crumbled almost as quickly as it grew, largely due to abuse of power from pastor Mark Driscoll. Not only do they inform the public, but they hold those in power accountable.Īs stories of church abuse and unethical behavior from Christian leaders continue to sprout up, we see just how important journalists are in brining these stories to light and so that these leaders are held accountable for the pain they've inflicted upon people. The role that journalists play in our society is so vital. ![]() 5/22/2023 0 Comments Wandfasted by laurie forest![]() ![]() When she is granted the opportunity to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an apothecary, Elloren is eager to join her brothers at the prestigious Verpax University and finally embrace a destiny of her own, free from the shadow of her grandmother's legacy. Destiny alone can sense Moira's unique relationship with time, and her resurrection would expose the truth about Moira's ten lives and the dark secrets of Krakoa. And with Professor Xavier flatly refusing that request, Mystique is ready to burn the nation of Krakoa to the ground to get what she wants.Īs established in Powers of X #6, Destiny is the one mutant Moira MacTaggert refuses to allow to be resurrected. Mystique is determined to see her wife Destiny resurrected alongside the rest of the mutant race. Instead, this series will build on perhaps the biggest loose end from Hickman's work so far. If I steal away to the gym, then that leaves her alone with those three maniacs. No! I have three kids, so in fact exercise is discouraged. Now, be honest, did you write The Hike so your wife would stop asking you to go outside and get some exercise? In real life, I turned around and went back to my hotel. I went on a hike and started getting freaked out because I was extremely alone and the woods began to twist and knot and I became mildly concerned I would either get lost or stumble onto some weird shit. Where did the idea for The Hike come from, and how different is the final book from that original idea? I’m a big fan of anything where someone gets lost and is trapped somewhere strange and imposing: desert islands, distant planets, Oz, anything. It’s a fellow who goes on a hike and gets very, very, very lost. So, in a general sense, what is The Hike about? To find out more about this cautionary tale, I spoke to Magary about the impetuous and influences behind this freaky and oddly semiautobiographical story. ![]() But for those who aren’t afraid of the great outdoors, might I recommend you read Drew Magary’s weird new horror/sci-fi novel, The Hike ( hardcover, digital), in which a guy has a terrible, no good, very bad day because he decided to take a walk in the woods. ![]() There are a lot of reasons to stay indoors. ![]() ![]() Thus far thwarted in his attempts to find the vials, Claude joins Raven’s longtime nemesis, super jock Trevor Mitchell, to concoct a vampire-theme masquerade ball at Dullsville High. In one of the book’s most memorable chapters, Mahbubani delivers, to what is undoubtedly the horror of American readers, a devastating critique of America’s current state of affairs. ![]() It quickly becomes apparent that America has since its foundation never had to experience being second place on the world stage. America has long been considered as possessing one of the most excellent education systems in the world and an uncanny capability to nurture and retain great talent, and the author recognizes this.
